Farewell snow! Spring is in full-swing and Vancouver is bustling with plenty of events to enjoy. Check out what’s happening this month in the city.

Cannery Farmers’ Market at Gulf of Georgia Cannery: Check out Steveston’s very own market, packed with fresh, handmade goods, vendors, community groups, crafted products, and more. As a bonus, admission to the museum is free on market days!

The Wheel Part 4- Coming Alive: “Inspired by the Solar Wheel of the Year, The Wheel is an opportunity to take part in the ancient and universally recognized tradition of following the seasonal cycle. Each two hour gathering will include sharing on seasonal attunement, followed by an auric cleansing, yoga movement and breath-work, plant medicine, sound healing, and finally ending with suggested seasonally inspired rituals to practise at home.”

Amanda Smart: Recollect: Amanda Smart’s work is a love of reflection and transparency — the way that light reveals forms underneath water, the enigmatic glow of light on skin, and crystalline patterns on rocks are the sources of exploration in her work. This exhibit at Betamax will mark her inaugural solo show.

Never the Last: “Inspired by the life story of Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté, an enormously innovative early twentieth century composer, the drama follows her 10-year marriage with the celebrated expressionist painter Walter Gramatté. Set to a live score of Eckhardt-Gramatté’s solo violin works, the multimedia presentation blends movement and text to tell a heartbreaking tale of adventure, poverty, and strife.”

qaʔ yəxw – water honours us: womxn and waterways: this exhibition
features video, photography, carving, printmaking, beading, and performance, highlighting women’s unique relationship with water as child bearers, healers, doulas, and other roles key to Indigenous matriarchal societies of the Northwest Coast.

Act of Faith: This new play by Janet Munsil is a story of an inexplicable recovery that changes the lives of a community. Suddenly after years of living with paraplegia, Faith can walk and believes it was the work of a miracle. Based on the story of a Vancouver woman who lived with paraplegia for 13 years, the show begs the question, “If you aren’t religious, can you still believe in a miracle?”

Southern Pride Chicken: Juke Fried Chicken and Eat North are teaming together to create a special evening offshoot of the popular Drags Benny pop-ups. In support of Canadian Pride Initiatives, this event will features drinks, a three course feast, and a series of drag performances from Queens Kendall Gender and Perla Coddington. “Throughout the night, the local drag-cocktail-making duo known as ‘Bitter Queens’ (Juke Bar Manager Olivia Povarchook and Tiago De Souza Jensen) will also be serving lip-smacking libations inspired by both performers.” Partial proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the local LGBTQ+ organization QMUNITY.

Mariza’s Evocative Vocals at the Chan Centre: Another incredible female artist is coming the Chan Centre this month! Vancouver’s favourite faddist, Mariza, is back to perform Portugal’s traditional soul music- fado- and works from her recent album.

Dead People’s Things: “Dead People’s Things tells the story of Phyllis, a millennial who inherits a house and all of its contents after her estranged hoarder aunt commits suicide. Phyllis must then collaborate with her neighbour Beatrice, who has been named executor of the estate, to understand the life of a woman she barely knew through the myriad, eclectic items she left behind.”
