About

Why we started

Since 2015, Loose Lips Magazine has been an independently-funded online publication that is proud to cover local arts, culture, women’s health, and current events. Our publication is co-founded by two journalism school grads who went searching for their media niche but decided to create it instead.

Our mandate is to inform in the spirit of equity, fairness, and honesty, with a dedication to anti-racist reporting. The content published on Loose Lips Magazine spotlights women, non-binary people, and other underrepresented voices.

We encourage pitches and contributions from experienced writers and journalists, especially people of colour, people of all abilities, and LGBTQIA+ folks.

Loose Lips is grateful to operate on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Musqeaum, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.

“Inform in the spirit of equity, fairness, and honesty”

Our Journalistic Standards & Guildelines

To maintain the credibility and integrity of our publication, standards and practices for Loose Lips Magazine are as follows:

  1. Each story shall uphold standards of fairness, equity, balance, and transparency.
  2. All interviews are on the record with pre-informed consent.
  3. Subjects will be made aware of the story’s direction before and during the interview.
  4. Interviews shall not be edited by interviewees after the fact, and are not paid. Loose Lips Magazine can ensure the anonymity of sources based on the sensitivity of the story and at the request of the subject in advance.
  5. All stories are subject to due diligence, including fact-checking processes and editing for brevity, clarity, and relevance.
  6. Articles exist in the timeframe in which they are published. Updates to stories may exist in a new article or be updated with an editor’s note to ensure transparency. In the event that a person’s pronouns need to be updated or corrected, we are happy to do so with no contest.
  7. All stories aim to be free of conflict of interest. Journalists cannot be too close to their sources.

Requests and concerns can be discussed with the editors. Please reach out to hello@looselipsmedia.ca for further discussion.
