Introducing Music Monday, where we pay homage to the rad women dropping the beat (or some truth) on Vancouver and surrounding areas every last Monday of the month.

This time, we’re talking about the intersection of film and music with these fabulous music video team ups. Without further ado, let’s check out this visual playlist, full of local players and artists.

Groupthink by Amanda Sum
Directed by Mayumi Yoshida

A charming video for Amanda Sum’s debut single directed by Mayumi Yoshida. Reflecting on the relationship between humans and machinery, “Groupthink” explores the idea of breaking free from societal expectations with an all female line up donning traditional cheongsam dresses.

Before I Leave by Hollow Twin
Self-directed

A haunting new track and video by duo Hollow Twin. Becky Wosk and Emmalee Watts remain at the helm of this two-piece, which has been writing and performing ethereal, dark folk since 2012. The video for “Before I Leave” seems to reflect the moodiness and spare sound of the song, revealing their raw-as-ever nature.

Muse by Maryze
Self-edited with video submissions

“Muse,” a song written and performed by Maryze (otherwise known as North Vancouver-born Maryse Bernard) and produced by Super Plage. Debuting in May of this year, Maryze collected video submissions from around the world just a couple months in to the 2020 COVID-19 quarantine to patch together this music video. Now that it’s almost November, I think we’re ready for part two.
