To Speak with a Golden Voice Exhibit: Many people associate the works of Bill Reid with the recognizable style of Northwest Coast Indigenous art. The Haida goldsmith, carver, sculptor, writer, broadcaster, mentor, and community activist has created a monumental legacy—one that is being honoured in To Speak With a Golden Voice, the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art’s latest exhibit. Court Support: Stand with Indigenous Land Defenders: “Join us for a notice of application hearing regarding the sentencing of three Indigenous land and water defenders, Jim Leyden, Stacy Gallagher, and Tawahum Bige. They were found in contempt of court for conducting prayer and ceremony at the Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby to protect the land from the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.”

To Be From the Same Tree: “In Sara Ahmed’s text ‘A Phenomenology of Whiteness,’ the notion of bodies being seen or felt ‘not at home’ in a Western ‘white’ world, devolves and considers how metaphors of familiarity are made up on the basis of likeness. Drawing from literature and photo album making, To Be From The Same Tree showcases a body of photographic work that seeks to probe this phenomenon through the act of remembering, retelling, and remaking. The exhibition uses the ‘family album’ as a point of departure in addressing cultural disorientation and racial entanglement while combining moments that testify love as a process of understanding.”
