COVID-19: Local haunts offering unique delivery and takeout options

As the saying goes “necessity is the mother of invention.” In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, restaurants around the globe were forced to close their doors to sit-down guests. In the face of this, restaurants, cafes, breweries and bars have gotten quite creative in their takeout and delivery offerings.

We’ve rounded up some local spots that are thinking outside the box.

Vancouver

The Federal Store: Offering baking needs, drinks, dry, fridge, and frozen goods, kitchen and bath items, produce, as well as snacks and treats. 
Method: Curbside pickup is available from their Mount Pleasant store or home delivery is offered by donation between Arbutus to Victoria and 49th to Hastings.

LIVIA: Sourdough, pastries, coffee and baguette sandwiches are available at LIVIA’s adorable takeout window. Additionally, you can pre-order goodies for pick up, including a delightful meal kit with fresh pasta, sauce, greens, and dessert. 
Method: Contactless payment at the takeout window, or order online for a safe pick up.

Innocent Ice Cream: Home of the World’s Best Gluten-Free Sandwich! This little mountain ice cream spot is now open for online orders and pick-up. Minimum $25 for orders.

Say Mercy: “Introducing STAFF MEAL – healthy, affordable meals and the opportunity to donate to those in need,” presented by the folks at Say Mercy, Dachi, Fable and more. Order pre-made or oven-ready meals, with all funds going to the hospitality staff. 
Method: Pick up 430 PM- 630 PM, Tuesday – Saturday.

Strange Times Take Away: Fellow burger lovers, rejoice! The ANNALENA x Their There team have put their heads together to create a delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner takeaway menu. For fancier nights in, ANNALENA has a four-course takeout menu as well. 
Method: Pick-up or delivery through Uber Eats.

The Juice Truck: Stock up on an array of healthy foods and drinks at the Juice Truck. Order individual salads, juices, treats, and snacks online or sign-up for a three, five, or seven day juice cleanse. **Delivery through their website is delivered the night before your chosen start date. For quick deliveries, use DoorDash. 
Method: Window pick-up of to-go orders are available at their West 5th location. Delivery is available anywhere in the Lower Mainland. For quick deliveries, use DoorDash.

Nuba: Delicious Lebanese food is easy to get with Nuba’s latest pickup and delivery options. Their regular offerings of mezzes, plates, salads, mains, and shared feasts are all available online. 
Method: Pickup is available from any of their four locations (West Hastings, West Broadway, Mount Pleasant, and Yaletown). Additionally, delivery by Nuba drivers is available within Downtown and Kitsilano. For other Vancouver locations, please use Uber Eats, DoorDash, or Foodora.

Meet Restaurants: Yummy vegan meals are now available through Meet’s latest partner: DoorDash. Through the third-party app, users can order either delivery or pickup from their Yaletown or Main Street locations. 
Method: Pickup is available at both Vancouver locations, as well as Vancouver wide delivery.

Chickpea: Another local vegan restaurant with tremendous offerings. In total, users have five different options to get a Chickpea meal: phone ordering, DoorDash, UberEats, RITUAL, and Foodee.
Method: Delivery is available from the Main Street restaurant by DoorDash or UberEats. Delivery from the Downtown truck is available from DoorDash or Ritual. For orders made 24 hours in advance, users can use Foodee. Lastly, for restaurant pickup please call 604-620-0602.

Anh and Chi: A Loose Lips team favourite! Get their contemporary Vietnamese through pickup or delivery. 
Method: For pickup, please call 604-878-8883 or pre-order by email at takeout@anhandchi.com. Delivery is available through UberEats.

La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop: Taco kits can’t get easier than this! La Taqueria has started taco bag pickups at their Yukon Street location, including all the necessary ingredients to assemble your favourite tacos at home. 
Method: Pickup at their Yukon Street location (2450 Yukon Street). Order on their website 12 hours in advance or during operating hours.

Icy Bar: Everyone needs dessert right now. Find shaved ice delicies and more at Icy Bar. 
Method: Order take out from their Knight Street location at 778-379-8288. Delivery is also available from their Kingsway location from UberEats, DoorDash, Fantuan, and Kabu.

Fable Kitchen: The well-known farm to table Vancouver restaurant is now offering take out from their West 4th location. Meals are intended to be taken home and reheated, with simple instructions attached for doing so. In addition, they are taking $5.00 donations in the form of a suspended stew that helps to feed front line workers. They have donated 925 stews already!
Method: Take out. Order from 8-2 PM and pick up from 3-6 PM (closed Tuesday’s).

Nelson the Seagull: Sourdough, fresh eggs, coffee, and flour. Get your brunch on…at home.

Richmond

Britannia Steveston: This small Steveston gem has wonderful food and even better beer. Help support this local business by ordering for pickup or delivery between 4-8 PM daily.

Langley

Well Seasoned: Find the best selection of gourmet foods at Well Seasoned. From pre-made Easter dinners to dried goods, this store has it all. Right now they are offering FREE yeast if you show them a picture of what you are going to make!
Method: Pickup at their Langley location is available. Additionally, delivery is free in Langley with a $50 purchase, with Lower Mainland delivery available for $10-15.

Fat Cow & Oyster Bar: Walnut Groves beloved bistro has converted to a grocery delivery hub with a new website for order processing. According to their website they drop the order off at your door step, ring the bell and head back to their truck to make sure you pick up. If you live in a condo they will buzz in and leave at door step. Team members are equipped with sanitizer and gloves and checked on day of arrival to work for any symptoms and checked for fever with a thermometer. Any one not feeling 100% is asked to leave and go home and rest.

Drinks

Juice Bar: Natural wine delivered to your door. The Juice Bar folks are offering home delivery service, as well as window pick-up service with contactless payment on the Powell St side. Wine lists are refreshed frequently (follow them on Instagram to stay up to date); all wines listed are 20% off the shelf price and include tax.

BeerVan: Faculty Brewing, Luppolo, Oddity Kombucha, Slow Hand Beer Company, Temporal Artisan Ales and Dickie’s Ginger Beer teamed up in a pinch to create an all-star beer delivery service. Free delivery for orders over $40 anywhere in the City of Vancouver. Orders placed before 2pm will be delivered to you on the same day. Orders placed after 2pm will be delivered the following day.

Stablehouse: This South Granville bistro and wine bar may be closed, but you can still take a slice of the experience home with you. Stablehouse is offering groceries, make at home meal kits, takeaway and wine offsales from their online market and pick-up window. Bonus: If you order a Stablehouse gift card for future use, house sommelier Matthew Landry will turn any question you may have about wine into the best Instagram video and demonstration you’ll see all week.
