On April 29, local runners, walkers, families, and couples will be lacing up for the annual Daffodil Dash at the Concord Parking Lot (Across From Rogers Arena). The Canadian Cancer Society event invites Vancouver residents to get moving with a light 1 KM walk or, alternatively, a 5 KM run to help raise funds for life-saving cancer research and support services for people and families living with cancer.
“This year, the lives of over 200,000 Canadians and their families will change when they hear the words ‘you have cancer,'” says Rachael Zapp.
“Funds raised through Daffodil Dash support research and support services for cancer patients and their families right here in Vancouver.”
Events such as the Daffodil Dash aim to support the rising demand of cancer support services, as Canada’s large aging population is calculated to drive a 40 per cent increase in cancer cases by 2030. In order to meet the demands for these services as well as the continuous funding needed for research investments, the Canadian Cancer Society encourages running and walking enthusiasts to participate in local fundraising events whenever possible.
The Daffodil Dash will start with an opening ceremony at 9:45 am on April 29 followed by a warm-up–and after, the Mini Dash for children ages 10 and younger. There will be food, beverages, activities, and prizes to be won.
Participants are welcome to sign up as a team or participate solo and are encouraged to dress in yellow in solidarity for the fight against cancer. Need some incentive? Those who raise $150 or more will also receive a complimentary pair of daffodil compression socks.
You can donate to individual participants or teams online, and help fund their campaign.

A note from the Canadian Cancer Society
“The Canadian Cancer Society is a national community-based organization dedicated to preventing cancer, saving lives and supporting people living with cancer through research funding, services and advocacy. We are Canada’s largest charity fighting all types of cancer and leading authority on cancer statistics and information. When you support the Canadian Cancer Society you have more impact against more cancers in more communities than with any other charity. Money raised through the Daffodil Dash supports outstanding research, provides information and support to people facing cancer and helps develop prevention strategies to stop cancer from happening in the first place.”
