On April 30, local runners, walkers, families, and couples will be lacing up for the third annual Daffodil Dash at Creekside Park (1455 Quebec Street at Terminal Avenue). The Canadian Cancer Society event invites Vancouver residents to get moving with a light 1 KM walk or, alternatively, a 5 KM run to help raise funds for life-saving cancer research and support services for people and families living with cancer.

“This year, the lives of over 200,000 Canadians and their families will change when they hear the words ‘you have cancer,'” says Rachael Zapp, annual giving coordinator.

“Funds raised through Daffodil Dash support research and support services for cancer patients and their families right here in Vancouver.”

Events such as the Daffodil Dash aim to support the rising demand of cancer support services, as Canada’s large aging population is calculated to drive a 40 per cent increase in cancer cases by 2030. In order to meet the demands for these services as well as the continuous funding needed for research investments, the Canadian Cancer Society encourages running and walking enthusiasts to participate in local fundraising events whenever possible.

The Daffodil Dash will start with a warm-up at 9 am on April 30, followed by a Mini Dash for children aged 10 and younger. There will be food and beverage, activities, and prizes to be won.

Participants are welcome to sign up as a team or participate solo and are encouraged to dress in yellow in solidarity for the fight against cancer. Need some incentive? Those who raise $150 or more will also receive a complimentary pair of daffodil compression socks.

You can donate to individual participants or teams online, and help fund their campaign.
