Forgiveness: Adapted for the stage by Hiro Kanagawa from the acclaimed memoir by Mark Sakamoto, Forgiveness is the powerful story of one family’s harrowing experiences during World War II. Don’t miss this innovative World Premiere.

Sunny Side Up and other sorrowful stories: An installation of costumes, props, and
sculptures handmade by Bourscheid, in conjunction with the world premiere of Agnes, in what
he describes as a “contemporary, auto-fictional video tale.”

Codes of Silence: Four artists radically overturn the illusory binary of untold stories, collective
identities, and political causes — often with a link to marginalized communities. Representing a range of
aesthetics and approaches, each video features voices that are muted, obscured, withheld,
or unexplained in ways that cultivate quietness, interiority, intimacy, and community.

As We Rise: Photography from the Black Atlantic: The international touring exhibition, curated by The Polygon Gallery’s Elliott Ramsey, is dedicated entirely to the Wedge Collection as featured in the recently published book by Aperture of more than 100 photographs from African diasporic culture from both sides of the Atlantic.

Black History Month at VIFF: VIFF’s BHM programming this year includes two series: Icons and Dispatches, spotlighting the accomplishments of American movie stars like Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Samuel L Jackson, Angela Bassett, Chadwick Boseman and others, emulating and transcending the path beaten by Sidney Poitier 60 years ago.
