Known as the ‘Gateway to Global Fashion,’ Vancouver is taking its 29th walk down the runway for the annual Vancouver Fashion Week. Each show takes place at the David Lam Hall, Chinese Cultural Centre, kicking off on March 20 and finishing up on March 26. Previewing clothing lines from the upcoming Fall/Winter 2017-2018 season, Loose Lips is looking forward to these four female designers in particular.
ARANTXA MORCILLO
Spanish native Arantxa Morcillo focuses on materials, forms and silhouettes. An obsessive attention to research is essential in her creative process which evolves in rich and intimate collections. After studying in London she worked at Somerset House and interned with Gareth Pugh before setting sail on her own endeavours. You can see her AW17 collection Memories on the Vancouver Fashion Week runway.
KAKOPIEROS
Kakopieros delves into the artistic, philosophical, spiritual and scientific questions of the human condition. Her AW17 collection Anne Frank will focus around the pervasive struggles that Anne Frank faced throughout her life, pulling inspiration from themes of politics and confrontation.
VIKTORIA TISZA
First launched as a swimwear brand, Viktoria Tisza has graduated into a more inclusive brand introducing bodysuits and jumpsuits and other new materials into the line. Working with moulded pieces of silicone rubber, Viktoria Tisza creates visionary sci-fi pieces for the runway.
SARA ARMSTRONG
A wildly acclaimed artist, who works in both fashion and industrial design, designer Sara Armstrong has been featured in globally recognized publications such as Vogue, Glamour, and ELLE Italia, ELLE Mexico, ELLE China, and ELLE Canada. Armstrong’s work blurs the lines of androgyny with creativity. Her education and background is in sculpture, evidently displayed in her work, which balances complex geometries and added simplicity. Her work is authentic, with a hand-worked approach to design.
