Pussy is grabbing back in more ways than one this year. With feminism on the rise, self-identifying women are finding new ways to smash the patriarchy. Galentine’s Day is replacing the traditional Valentine’s festivities and, personally, we love it. Pioneered by Parks and Rec’s beloved character Leslie Knope, February 13 has become a known celebration for sacred female friendships and bonds.

Loose Lips has curated a list on why you should have a Galentine’s Day this year and where to celebrate in the city.

Less Expectations

Disappointment on Valentine’s Day has almost become it’s own cliche. Just like the infamous Britney meme, the chances of getting chocolate, flowers, and dick on V-day can be as elusive as the final season of Girls. Securing a date with your girlfriends is never a regrettable decision, and could be the uplifting evening you need.

In addition to your trusty tribe, there’s another standby that never disappoints: Donuts. Cartems Donuterie has ongoing loved-themed February specials, and giant donut cakes made to order.

Wine and whine

Getting together with your gal pals means two things: a wine and whine session. Who needs to be in a pretentious restaurant filled with lovers when you can take a load off with your ladies while sipping on a $15 litre of Copper Moon red?

If you are taking your Galentine’s Day out on the town tonight, consider cocktails at Keefer Bar. Happy hour runs 5 pm-7pm Sunday-Friday with 2 for 1 food, and $5 Keefer Cider on Monday nights.

Whether you are celebrating your female friendships at home on the couch, or over cocktails at a Vancouver locale, know you’re doing it right.

The gift of giving

Ditch the stress of gift shopping for your loved one, and save yourself the horrifying experience of lingerie shopping (unless that lingerie is a for yourself, then do you). Galentine’s gift exchanges are an invite to show appreciation to your fellow femmes and allow for creativity in the process.
