Young Women in Business’ biggest conference, Lead Through Action, is back to share insights, create new skills and foster a community for women in all fields

I’ve been a “professional” now for six years, but I’m always keen on expanding my skill set and building on my portfolio. Conferences and other formalized learning opportunities have come my way, but one thing I’ve noticed is they’re usually focused on one industry.
And as someone who is still figuring out my career path, I really want to learn from others—see how they got to where they are today. Are they actually using their bachelor’s degree? Have they bounced around careers? How do you become a leader?
I recently joined Young Women in Business (YWiB), a non-profit committed to the development and empowerment of emerging female leaders, and the most valuable thing I’ve found is connecting with ambitious, hard working women from different fields – marketing, law, accounting, design.
This Saturday, YWiB is hosting Beyond: Lead Through Action; a one-day conference for young professionals looking to connect, develop and grow. The focus is on leadership and will help attendees build their leadership skill set, knowledge and network.
With varied speakers like Brandi Halls, Director of Brand Communications at Lush; Tracy Austin, Senior Manager of Retail Distribution at Tangerine; John Chan, Co-Founder of Dayboard and Amanda Collinge, Project Manager at Raymond James; and three interactive workshops where attendees can break into small groups for intimate learning sessions, it’s slated to be an educational experience.
Personally, I’m looking forward to the wealth of learning that can be had from all of the speakers, with the bonus of meeting and interacting with fellow attendees from all different career backgrounds during the conference and at the evening networking session.
